The founder of Avalanche Studios believes that Just Cause 5 is not possible at this time

The Just Cause saga first appeared in 2006 on PS2, Xbox, Xbox 360, and PC. This GTA-like game featured a gigantic map and breathtaking explosions. The title got three sequels, and the franchise has sold around 15 million games.

Unfortunately, Just Cause 4, the latest installment released in 2018, failed to live up to expectations with its tired formula. So much so that the fifth episode was canceled during development. Christofer Sundberg, founder of Avalanche Studios, has stated that the release of Just Cause 5 is not currently feasible.

*ยซ The problems encountered with Just Cause 4 were partly due to my (involuntary) transition from a creative leadership role to more administrative tasks, issues with the publisher, the composition and roles of the team, etc. It’s a shame, because Just Cause 4, today, is so promising.โ€

My team and I presented Contraband to Microsoft in 2017 (and they signed the contract). The project has obviously evolved a lot since then, but it would have been great to see it released one day. Just Cause 5 would be impossible, as very few members of the original team are still around. ยป

Christofer Sundberg is now working on a new project at Liquid Swords. Meanwhile, following the cancellation of Contraband, Avalanche Studios has carried out lay-offs and closed its studio in Liverpool.
