The Epic Games layoffs could have a real impact on Fortnite

Many developers still working at Epic Games are reflecing on this painful March 24. The American company laid off more than 1,000 people and decided to shut down several Fortnite modes.

This brutal restructuring has shaken up the teams, which may take some time to fully recover. This is what Robby Williams, who remains the gameplay producer for Fortnite, explained.

In his message posted on X, he referred to this “brutal day” and said he was “absolutely devastated” by the loss of certain developers. He also thanked the community for its support and warned that this event would have consequences for the game’s future.

“What comes next is very hard and painful. our teams will have to pick up the pieces and try to keep moving forward but we cannot even fully understand what kind of impacts this will have on the game for the rest of the year and likely beyond.

I’ll continue to do my best to keep making the best game for you, and i’m confident that my peers feel the same, but please be patient with us as we navigate this tough time and do our best in spite of these truly gut-wrenching losses.”
