To say that DLSS 5 has been heavily criticized is a massive understatement. The majority of gamers have rejected this new feature, even though NVIDIA presented it as optional and fully customizable by developers.

This backlash was evident in the presentation video uploaded to YouTube at the time of the announcement. As of this writing, it has 17,333 likes versus 90,113 dislikes, for a total of 1.5 million views. The ratio therefore stands at approximately 16% positive ratings versus 84% negative.

NVIDIA even had to clarify the nature of DLSS 5 in a comment to try to quell the backlash from internet users.

“Important to note with this technology advance – game developers have full, detailed artistic control over DLSS 5’s effects to ensure they maintain their game’s unique aesthetic. The SDK includes things like intensity, color grading and masking off places where the effect shouldn’t be applied. It’s not a filter – DLSS 5 inputs the game’s color and motion vectors for each frame into the model, anchoring the output in the source 3D content.”
