Capcom will try its luck again at the box office this year with yet another adaptation of Resident Evil. The feature film, which is expected in September 2026, is directed by Zach Cregger (Barbarian, Faint).

In a new interview with Deadline, Oliver Berbin, CEO of production company Constantin Film, revealed that Cregger was given “the carte blanche to do whatever he wanted to do with that IP.”

“With Resident Evil, we have had an incredible journey with one of the most successful international IPs of more than a billion dollars in box office for many years and now we are creating something new, not just a new story idea, but to allow a new generation to take the IP into their own hands and form something different.”

Berbin went even further in describing this new Resident Evil movie as*”far away from everything that is connected to Resident Evil”*. Zach Cregger got to bring his personal style to the franchise. It remains to be seen whether this will be for better or for worse.
