The Cities: Skylines franchise is changing devs

After numerous setbacks surrounding the second installment, the Cities: Skylines license is changing studios. Paradox has announced that Colossal Order will soon no longer be at the helm of the city simulation franchise.

The decision was made by mutual agreement between the publisher and the developer. Colossal Order says it wants to explore new creative opportunities. The studio will continue its work on Cities: Skylines 2 until the end of 2025.

“For more than fifteen years, the Cities series and our partnership with Paradox have been a defining part of Colossal Order’s history.

When we launched Cities in Motion, we never imagined it would become such a beloved franchise with a passionate and loyal community of millions of players around the world.

We are confident that the franchise will continue to thrive under Paradox’s leadership. Looking ahead, we are excited to put our experience, creativity, and passion into new projects that align with our long-term vision.”

Iceflake Studios, a Finnish subsidiary of Paradox, will take over the reins of Cities: Skylines. The studio will work on the entire series starting in early 2026. In particular, it will handle upcoming updates and DLC.
