In the world of video games, a decade is an eternity. Graphics, mechanics, consoles, and even player expectations evolve at breakneck speed. Yet some titles stand the test of time and continue to leave a lasting impression. The ones we’re going to present in this selection were all released in 2015 and have therefore celebrated their 10th anniversary. So, are you ready to feel your age?
It goes without saying that we’re going to start this topic by talking about The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Recognized as one of the best RPGs and open worlds to date, with exemplary storytelling and depth. Regularly available at a bargain price, this CD PROJEKT RED production is by far one of the must-haves of 2015. The title has performed exceptionally well, with a Metacritic score of 92 and a total of 60 million copies sold.
Our second suggestion is a PS4 exclusive. Now iconic in its genre, it remains one of the strongest pillars of the souls-like genre. We are, of course, talking about Bloodborne. This game is all about challenging difficulty, tense combat, and labyrinthine level design. Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, a particularly popular installment in the eponymous franchise, was also released at the end of 2015. It transported players to 19th-century London.
Let’s now move away from third-person adventure games for something a little different. To add some engine noise to our selection of the best games of 2015, what could be better than Forza Motorsport 6 or Rocket League. In 2019, the studio behind the latter, Psyonix, was acquired by Epic Games. Now available for free on their launcher, the game’s popularity has only increased, allowing it to remain among the most popular multiplayer games.
A few fighting games were also released that same year, including Mortal Kombat X for bloody combat, and Dragon Ball Xenoverse. The latter offers players the chance to dive back into the world of Son Goku and discover the strange city of Tokitoki. Those in search of horror were able to dive into the excellent Soma and discover what lies beneath the waves of the Atlantic Ocean. For a gentler approach to the marine world, Fishing Planet is the game to check out. We promise, it’s a more peaceful atmosphere, where the goal is simply to fish.
Let’s add a little color with some releases from the Nintendo ecosystem. Indeed, this was also the year Super Mario Maker was released, first on Wii U and then ported to Nintendo 3DS. The concept is to give players the opportunity to create and play their own levels. But that’s not all, as the famous The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate are also added to this list. Finally, let’s mention Splatoon, which also stands out for its colorful style and energetic musical atmosphere. The game offers competitive modes, community events, and a single-player mode.
This first selection features many interesting productions that marked 2015 and celebrated their 10th anniversary. While some of them are still popular today, others have not stood the test of time and are now just fond memories to be cherished. What are your memories of 2015? See you soon for Part 2!
