The Alters gets a big free update to help you relax

11 Bit Studios has released a big free update for The Alters, making the clone-tastic survival game a bit more relaxed, lets you indulge your inner photographer, and more besides.

The first free content update for The Alters brings Relax Mode and Photo Mode to the table, which were both highly requested features. Relax mode’s difficulty level reads “Enjoy a game with calmer survival mechanics and less time pressure. Recommended for players who want to focus on the story.”

There’s also new relaxation themed content alongside that. There’s a Gamer’s Room that you can add to the facility you’re managing, and there’s a new card-based mini-game to chill out with. A new storyline has been introduced to the game that has a real film noir vibe with its black-and-white visuals… and you can customise the base with a bunch of deeply tweakable patterns on the exterior. There’s a similar level of visual tweakability for the space suits as well.

It’s a pretty good update if you ask me!

As stressful as it could be, we gave The Alters a glowing review. Ade said, “The Alters is one of the stand-out survival games of this generation. Imbued with a fascinating sci-fi concept for the ages – one that asks genuinely fascinating ethical questions – and with high-pressure survival mechanics that keep things stressful from beginning to end, this is quite the experience. Did I enjoy playing it? Not really, but good grief, I’ll never forget it.”
