The 1996 arcade game Tokyo Wars releases today on modern consoles

Almost thirty years after its release in arcades, Namco’s tank combat game Tokyo Wars is available for the first time on modern consoles. This port is coming today to Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch 2 via Hamster Corporation’s Arcade Archives collection.

Released in 1996, Tokyo Wars featured battles between two teams in the streets of Tokyo or on the docks. The game used the Super System 22 chip, the same as Ridge Racer and Air Combat. This new version retains the original gameplay, with several modes and online rankings.

On current consoles, the Arcade Archives 2 version adds a split-screen multiplayer mode, a Time Attack mode, and VRR for optimal smoothness.
