When Disney bought the Star Wars franchise in 2012 it cancelled upcoming projects in many media formats, including a couple of video games. Pre-release code for one of those games, Star Wars: First Assault, managed to find its way online, and since then, a team has been working to complete the game.
They recently held a closed beta and you can watch the footage from that below. It is very much a game from that era – and by that I mean it’s very brown – and seems to Star Wars does Call of Duty.
If you are interested in Star Wars: First Assault then you can jump on their Discord server.
An unlicensed Star Wars game is never going to be online for too long, if the team try and make this public then Disney’s lawyers will firing off cease and desists letters before you can say “These aren’t the droids you are looking for.”
Patrick Wren, who was a designer for Lucasfilm and worked on the original game recently posted on Twitter “I loved that we were months away from launching a Star Wars game that would have just made them money since dev costs were done.”
Upcoming Star Wars games include Star Wars: Galactic Racer and Star Wars: Zero Company.
