Switch Online Leak Might Rule Out A Highly Requested GameCube Remaster

A page on Walmart’s website apparently let slip that two unannounced GameCube titles are coming to the Nintendo Switch Online library of classic games.

Near the bottom of Walmart’s Nintendo page (as first spotted by Nintendo Life), a graphic advertising the Nintendo Switch Online paid membership includes box art for several retro games that are already available on the Nintendo Classics apps. Metroid Prime 2 and Pikmin 2, which Nintendo has not announced for NSO as of yet, are included in the image, which is still on the Walmart site as of this writing.

Already on the Metroid subreddit, fans are lamenting that Prime 2 coming to Nintendo Classics appears to indicate that the 2004 title won’t be getting a proper remaster, as the first game did for the Switch in 2021. The conventional wisdom is that Nintendo wouldn’t have a game on Nintendo Classics that it’s already selling on the Switch, and we can point to a few cases that support or contradict this.
