Subnautica 2 is set to release in May on Xbox Series and PC

Following a delay and legal disputes with the studio’s co-founders, Unknown Worlds has finally decided to release Subnautica 2 in the very near future.

The underwater exploration and survival game, playable in both single-player and multiplayer modes, will launch in Early Access in May on Xbox Series and PC. IGN also shared an internal message from Steve Papoutsis, the studio’s current director.

“We’d like to take a moment to sincerely thank every member of the Unknown Worlds team, as well as our partners. Over the past nine months, you have worked tirelessly to bring Subnautica 2 to the finish line. These efforts have resulted in a game we are truly proud of—a game that all of us, along with our partners at KRAFTON, have unanimously decided is ready for an Early Access release in May.

Thanks to your dedication and talent, we’ve added new chapters to the story, created new creatures and biomes, and introduced many other features. Building on this significant progress, we successfully passed KRAFTON’s evaluation last week and are now ready to begin our open development phase alongside our community. We are confident that we have reached a stage where we can deliver an experience that our players will love.

We look forward to working with Ted Gill to ensure a smooth transition and work toward a successful launch. Our priority is to put this game in the hands of the community that is eagerly awaiting it—and that means honoring the work you have already done to make this possible.”

As a reminder, Ted Gill is set to be reinstated as CEO of Unknown worlds in the coming weeks.
