Steam’s Latest Free Game Has Well-Earned 100 Percent Positive Reviews

Visual novel games have been a thing for a long time, but they’ve been through a bit of a renaissance in the last few years, to the point where some of the better efforts in the genre are now widely used as cultural references for all sorts of gamers.

Equally, there are more free games on Steam than ever before, and it’s remarkably easy to make your own fun for the evening without parting with a single penny of your hard-earned cash.

So when a game combines the two, it’s worth paying attention to, and a newly released game is receiving nothing but positive feedback from those who’ve played it so far.

Taking my Dark Knight Girlfriend to the corner store is, in the developer’s own words, about “a mostly normal girl living a mostly normal life until one day, Brunhilde- a fearsome Dark Knight from another realm- tears through a portal in the sky and asks Dana to guide her to find and slay the mysterious Gray Wizard.”

The story runs to 10,000 words, with about one hour of gameplay, but most of you will want to jump in to work through the story more than anything else.

If it does sound like your kind of thing, the reviews suggest that it’s a great example of the genre, with 100% of currently posted feedback positive on the game’s Steam page, correct at the time of writing.

“If you want an absolutely massive dark knight woman to sweep you off your feet, this is the game for you. Plus, it’s short and it’s free, so there’s no reason not to experience it,” one comment reads.

“Cute and funny little visual novel!! I loved Brunhilde and Dana, and the writing and comedic timing was great!” another added.

“It’s short but free and worth the 30~1 hour playtime. I came for the art because the art style was appealing, but stayed for the writing specifically,” a third confirmed. “There’s a lot of tenderness it packs into such a short run time and I have to give the writer their flowers for that. I think if I had a favourite aspect it would be the way Brunhilde speaks and interacts with the world.”

Though it won’t be for the more gameplay focused readers out there, it’s a minimal time investment for the story and there’s absolutely no risk associated with getting it, thanks to the very reasonable £0/$0 price tag.
