Steam has just added a new demo for a stunning new upcoming RPG and its free to try out right now.
With so many games available on Steam, it can be quite difficult to find something best suited to your tastes. There are thousands of games released each year, and that makes it tricky to decide what your next big game should be.
On the plus side, the demo section on Steam gives you a chance to try these games out before you decide to purchase.
Dead Weight: Prologue Is A Free Go At A Neat, Upcoming Turn-Based RPG
Dead Weight: Prologue is one such example, giving you a small taste of the final game before it releases in 2026.
Set for release in Q1 2026, Dead Weight is an upcoming RPG described as “a marvelous steampunk adventure”.
It adds: “Board a flying ship, stock up on fuel, hire a trusty crew and get ready to explore dangerous islands and fight the Ancient Gods in turn-based combat.
“Unlock new skills, characters, get stronger and uncover the darkest secrets of this world.
“The world is rapidly changing and you will have to change with it. Mighty creatures have risen from their eternal slumber. Will you fight them or follow them in pursuit of forbidden knowledge?”
The turn-based combat may remind you of a game like XCOM or Into The Breach, where you move your units around on a grid and take turns dealing damage against the enemy, before the tables turn around on you, and you must defend yourself from your opponent.
Dead Weight: Prologue gives you a small slice of the game’s opening, where you play as Arn, a mighty Barbarian who meets the ancient Gods for the first time and gains supernatural powers.
The demo also lets you explore the game’s first big region, where you can upgrade your flying pirate ship and create a unique build with over 20 character skills and items.
The demo isn’t very long, lasting only an hour or so, but should give you enough of a chance to try the game out for yourself and decide whether you want to play the full thing or not.
There are even a few Steam Achievements to pick up, if you’re into that sort of thing.
Check out Dead Weight: Prologue on Steam now, and see the full title releasing in Q1 2026. There is no concrete release date for the game just yet.
