Steam Free Download Is a Gorgeous Zelda: Breath of the Wild Alternative

If there’s one thing that many PC players want, but will likely never get, is a legal and official way to play The Legend of Zelda on their hardware.

Nintendo has always stayed true to itself and never lets the likes of Mario and Zelda stray to other platforms, and while that’s frustrating for some, it does open the door to developers who can capture that magic.

Enter the PC game, Cloudheim, which from looks alone, is really leaning into Nintendo inspiration, and emulating the beauty and scale of Breath of the Wild.

There’s currently a free demo of Cloudheim available to download and play from Steam, and already it’s impressing players.

Look beyond the visuals, which certainly scream The Legend of Zelda (though I’d argue there’s some Immortals Fenyx Rising in there) and you’ve got an action game based on adventure and physics-based shenanigans.

Set for several players to journey together, or be played solo, Cloudheim will bring hack-and-slash action as you battle your way through waves of enemies in the hope of driving back the corruption spreading through the land.

With bombastic abilities that can be harnessed in battle, the world around you will react to your power, with walls crumbling, or ground being torn asunder.

It’s not all in the name of bringing peace to the land, but achieving your capitalist dream of running a shop.

It’s just this shop is on the back of an ancient turtle who has summoned you to save the world, via commerce, I guess?

When you aren’t scrapping your way through fights, you’ll be crafting weapons and armour to use in said fights, or sell on to a friendly cast of characters.

With 15 playable characters, and a whole host of adorable critters to live amongst you, Cloudheim certainly appeals to a wide range of players.

It appears to be very accessible, with an experience that combines aspects of cosy shop-running, with dungeon delving action.

It’s certainly one way to get a taste of the Nintendo ethos over on Steam, and if the demo tempts you, then you’ll be pleased to know the game launches on 4 December 2025.

Grab your friends, choose the class that suits your style, and experience this sumptuous world today, it might lead to you having a new favourite game.
