Starfield Players Left Disappointed By DLC Delay

Bethesda’s sci-fi epic Starfield didn’t necessarily hit all of the notes that players expected to when it launched, with many criticising the space travel and exploration as particular places where the game needs to be improved.

Fortunately, the developer heard those complaints and has continued to improve the game with a series of free updates that actually turned it into one of the better sci-fi games of the last few years.

Beyond that, Bethesda has also pledged to continuing to release content for the game, including a highly-anticipated story DLC. That was confirmed back in August by lead creative producer at Bethesda Game Studios, Tim Lamb, who had the following to say about future plans in a development video, “I think as it comes to Starfield, I’m really excited for players to see what the teams been working on. We have some cool stuff coming, including free updates and features the players have been asking for, as well as a new DLC story.”

Unfortunately, players might be waiting a little longer to get their hands on the new story than they may have otherwise expected. As first reported by Twisted Voxel, citing information from well-known gaming insider NateTheHate, Starfield’s next DLC has been delayed, though a version of the game is on the way in 2026 for PS5 players.

When asked about the game’s future, he had the following to say, “The expansion content planned for this year was delayed & they want the PS5 version close to that. So… buy me Starfield for PS5 when it hits next year.”

In a post sharing the news on Reddit, fans were not happy that they would have to wait. “I don’t get how DLC is taking this long. Hopefully it’s due to major resource shift the past few years over to Elder Scrolls. Or that it really is a DLC with a core game overhaul of Starfield similar to the big Cyberpunk update for Phantom Liberty. Stay positive, stay positive, trying to stay positive,” one comment read.

“Even if this DLC is the overhaul we’ve all wanted, they’ve basically cut the legs off any modding community that would’ve been interested otherwise. ‘We should’ve stayed quiet and launched Shattered Space with vehicles and the difficulty options’ is the dumbest possible takeaway from this debacle. Look at the Oblivion Remake. One patch after six months and still no idea if there’ll be another,” another added.

Whatever happens with the DLC in the end, 2026 is looking absolutely stacked for new releases once again, so it will have to be fairly monumental to stop players looking elsewhere for their thrills.
