You can play what can be considered as a spiritual Star Wars Battlefront 3 right now, because letâs face it, EA isn’t releasing it officially anytime soon.
When the Star Wars Battlefront series had its reboot in 2015, itâs fair to say that it was a game that had so much promise, but evidently, underdelivered.
Sure, its multiplayer was fine for the most part, but it lacked depth, which was a major problem, because Star Wars Battlefront had no single-player campaign (and no, Iâm not counting those tacked-on missions), and it was a full-priced game.
Then, in 2017, Star Wars Battlefront II not only delivered a fun single-player campaign, but its multiplayer modes also had a lot more depth, character customisation, and a decent amount of post-launch content updates.
âEmbark on an endless journey from the best-selling Star Wars video game franchise of all time. Experience rich multiplayer battlegrounds across all three eras – prequel, classic and new trilogy – or rise as a new hero and discover an emotionally gripping single-player story spanning thirty years,â reads the synopsis of Star Wars Battlefront II.
Unfortunately, Star Wars Battlefront IIâs multiplayer was tainted by its egregious microtransactions and loot boxes that encouraged pay-to-win temptations. Sure, EA and developers DICE fixed those issues later on, but for many fans, too much damage was already done.
However, in recent months, Star Wars Battlefront II has had somewhat of a resurgence with players new and old discovering that there was a good game there after all, it just took a while for that to be known.
As such, those fans are hoping that the unexpected resurgence of Star Wars Battlefront II might encourage EA to greenlight a trilogy. While that doesn’t appear to be happening anytime soon, talented modders have taken matters into their own hands.
The on-the-nose named âBattlefront III Teamâ has created their own third game courtesy of a mod that adds 22 new heroes for the multiplayer, 11 each for the forces of good and evil. Best of all, this mod is free to download right now via Nexusmods.
The new playable heroes include characters from canon as well as legends such as Darth Revan, Kit Fisto, Starkiller and Plo Koon. It also adds new customisations, abilities and much more.
You will need a Steam copy of Star Wars: Battlefront II to play it. Oh, and as is the case with most mods, this is a PC exclusive.
Star Wars Battlefront II is out now on PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
