Sony is now applying dynamic pricing to certain games on the PlayStation Store

Whether in transportation, e-commerce, or tourism, dynamic pricing has become widespread in recent years. This method involves changing the price of a good or service based on various factors such as demand or supply. Video games will not be spared by this trend.

Sony appears to be starting to apply this much-criticized method on the PlayStation Store. Several games show price differences of between 5.3% and 17.9% out of a total of 139 titles across 68 regions around the world. For the moment, this full-scale test only concerns price reductions and not increases.

The PS Prices website has listed several examples to illustrate these dynamic prices. Without knowing it, users have been randomly assigned to the group eligible for these prices. For example, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is visible at €69.99 to these players instead of €79.99 for others. The same applies to Stellar Blade, Gran Turismo 7, and even God of War Ragnarök. Helldivers 2 has also been spotted at €35.74.

Other third-party titles are also included, notably WWE 2K25 at €61.82 instead of €74.99, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II at €59.57, and even Red Dead Redemption 2 at €44.99. The areas affected are Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Latin America, and Africa.

Finally, while dynamic pricing is currently only resulting in price reductions, it is likely to lead to price increases in the future. For example, when a game is in high demand among consumers, Sony could reserve the right to increase its price to capitalize on this popularity. The Japanese manufacturer could also raise its prices during periods of high demand, such as Christmas.
