Sony doesn’t think GTA 6 is one of the most anticipated games of 2026

A list of the most anticipated games of 2026 from Sony has garnered attention for not including GTA 6.

Even if you’re not personally excited for GTA 6, there’s no denying that it’s the most important game release of the year, if not decade. After all, no other game has other publishers scrambling to avoid launching their titles within the same time frame.

As such, GTA 6 is guaranteed a slot, if not the top one, in any ‘most anticipated video games of 2026’ lists from gaming websites and blogs.

That’s why it’s weird to see Sony publish its own list on the official PlayStation website and yet GTA 6 is nowhere to be seen.

It’s not as if Sony is focusing purely on its own first party releases, such as Wolverine and Saros. The list includes plenty of third party games, including Resident Evil Requiem and 007: First Light, as well as the Halo: Combat Evolved remake from Xbox.

Even the more obscure Directive 8020 and The Blood Of Dawnwalker made it on there, despite lacking exact release dates beyond a 2026 window. Compare that to GTA 6, which is officially scheduled for November 19.

The discrepancy was first spotted by the fan-made GTA 6 Countdown X account and the simplest explanation is that whoever made the list just forgot, although that is a huge and embarrassing mistake.

However, many fans have taken it as evidence that not even Sony is confident GTA 6 will be out this year. After all, the game’s been delayed twice already and there’s no guarantee it won’t happen again.

That doesn’t explain why they’re suddenly so sure about games like Directive 8020 though, of which nothing has been seen in many months.

It’s also odd because Sony is believed to have a marketing deal with Rockstar Games for GTA 6, including hardware bundles, as if there was any further reason needed to promote it.

Perhaps the most plausible explanation though is that Sony has charged other publishers to be part of the list, which would explain some of the more obscure choices.

Perhaps Rockstar and Take-Two simply refused to pay, since they don’t exactly need the advertising assistance. The two trailers it has reveal very little about its gameplay and story, but they’ve still accrued hundreds of millions of views on YouTube.

A recent explosion at Rockstar North’s offices in Edinburgh, which thankfully saw no casualties, did immediately spark chatter of another delay, but Rockstar has inferred that its work has not been impacted by the incident.

‘Many thanks to those that reached out with concern, and also to the police and fire crews who were on scene quickly to assess the situation,’ a studio spokesperson said. ‘Please know that everyone is well and our studio remains open and operational.’

Nevertheless, after two delays already, few fans are 100% confident about the game coming out this year.
