Sony has reportedly confirmed that there’s a major change coming to PlayStation, and it’s bad news for PC gamers.
Over the years, Sony has been quite restrictive when it comes to bringing its first-party games to other platforms. However, in recent years, that has changed.
As reported by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, sources have informed that Sony no longer plans on releasing its games on PC, which is surely a major blow for many. This decision will not only impact the release of Ghost of Yotei, but also the upcoming Saros and everything else after.
In recent years, particularly on the PC platform Steam, we’ve seen the likes of Ghost of Tsushima, God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn all come to the platform. What’s more, even 2024’s Horizon LEGO Adventures was not only released on PC, but it was also ported to the Nintendo Switch, and last year, Helldivers II surprisingly came to Xbox Series X/S with cross-play support.
Sony’s latest major first-party title was Ghost of Yotei, a 2025 follow-up to the popular Ghost of Tsushima. Naturally, PC gamers thought it was only a matter of time until that game also came to Steam. Sadly, according to reports, that won’t be the case, as it looks like Sony is done with PC ports.
What other games are impacted?
If there’s a shining light with this news, it is that this decision only seems to impact single-player games.
It seems that multiplayer games, those that have cross-play, such as Marathon, which launches tomorrow, will not be impacted.
Furthermore, seeing as they were already announced for a PC release, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and Kena: Scars of Kosmora will still come to Steam.
Sony has done this because it makes the most money from microtransactions and third party sales from people being on the PlayStation platform. Whereas its rival, Microsoft, has gone all-in on multiplatforming. PC gaming is taking away more PlayStation users than it adds. Will this make you want to buy a PS5, or even a PS6 as time goes on?
Of course, it’s worth keeping in mind that no matter how reliable Jason Schreier tends to be, Sony hasn’t officially confirmed this report.
