An update on the PlayStation Store aims to provide greater transparency on the price of PS5 games, as another sale begins.
With the sheer amount of sales on the PlayStation Store, it’s difficult to tell sometimes whether a discounted game is truly worth taking the plunge on.
Over recent months, Sony has made alterations to the storefront to make these decisions easier. In October last year, it added an option to show the lowest price a game has been in the last 30 days, so you can compare against the current price.
Now, Sony is rolling out another addition in the form of a ‘launch price’ strip. This shows the game’s original price on the date it released, and ‘for at least 30 days afterwards’.
This is a helpful indicator in case there has been a price increase, or decrease, since launch. It’s relatively minor, but it’s an easier way to see exactly how much you’re saving against the original launch price.
It’s unclear whether this is tied to a legal requirement in certain territories, or if it is an unbidden act of transparency on Sony’s part. However, it appears it’s not appearing for everybody yet. Screenshots from Push Square show it is live for some people in the UK, but it wasn’t showing up when we booted up our PlayStation 5.

What these PlayStation Store listings don’t tell you is that you can often find cheaper deals when you buy games physically instead. So, even with this small change, we’d still advise shopping around online to see if there isn’t a better deal on the likes of Argos or Amazon.
