Sega has announced that Sonic Racing: Crossworlds Switch 2 Edition will arrive digitally on 4th December 2025, both as a standalone launch and with an upgrade path for owners of the Switch 1 version of the blue hedgehog’s kart racer. A physical release will then arrive in early 2026.
The jump from Switch to Switch 2 will bring a significant jump in resolution and graphics. Now the game will run at 1080p on the Switch 2 in handheld mode, and can push for 1440p when docked. It’s 60fps for single player and 2-player, which steps down to 30fps for 4-player split-screen.
The Switch 2 version of Sonic Racing: Crossworlds will be priced at £64.99, in line with the pricing on PC, PlayStation and Xbox, but £10 pricier than the game on original Nintendo Switch. So… there’s a £10 upgrade option from Switch to Switch 2, complete with save and paid content transfers.
Even better, if you upgrade during the first week – so from 1AM GMT on 4th December to 1AM GMT on 11th December – that upgrade pack will be £5. You can get the Switch 2 version for less by going via the Switch 1, in other words.
While there’s plenty of reasons to consider Sonic Racing: Crossworlds as an alternative to Mario Kart World, it sadly didn’t scratch the itch for Dom when reviewing the game in September. He said, “While it gets plenty of the fundamentals right, the dimension hopping, character roster and some of the extra modes don’t quite stick the landing. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds isn’t the best karting game out there, and thirteen years on from Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, it’s not even the best karting game with a blue hedgehog in it.”
