If you fancied modding The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim into something completely unrecognisable, then, oh boy, do I have the right modpack for you.
Bethesda have always been one of the most pro-modding developers out there. In fact, you could even argue that their ongoing success is a direct result of this, because some of their oldest games continue to remain popular due to how dedicated the modding scenes behind them are.
There’s no greater example of this than The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. It may not be Bethesda’s oldest title by any stretch of the imagination, but it is more than 14 years old.
And yet, it’s the most popular title on Nexus Mods by a long shot. As of writing, Skyrim Special Edition has a whopping 123,400+ mods available for download, which is almost double that of the second-place spot, Fallout 4.
Also, funnily enough, the third most popular game on Nexus is… also Skyrim (as there are two separate Nexus Mods pages for the standard version of the game, and the Special Edition version).
However, considering how many mods are available for the game, at what point would a modded version of Skyrim start resembling a different game entirely? How many visual or mechanic-altering mods would you have to install before you’d be better off just playing a different game entirely?
Well, it seems someone over on the r/ElderScrolls subreddit has inadvertently answered that question for us, because they’ve just posted a gameplay snippet of playing Skyrim with the “Lorerim” modlist installed… and this honestly looks more like Dragon’s Dogma than Skyrim to me.
The folks in the comments didn’t hold back from absolutely roasting the original poster either (although that might have more to do with the slowed/reverbed version of Nirvana’s song Come as You Are that’s playing in the clip’s background).
“I feel like its just time to play a different game at this point thats not even Skyrim anymore,” commented user Jontheprester.
“Why does heavily modded Skyrim always look like a fake mobile game ad?” replied user skoobityscoop.
“At this point Skyrim is just an engine,” commented user NotSoFluffy13.
But hey, if you like the look of this (no judgment here), then you can head on over to the Lorerim website and download the modlist for yourself.
Or, y’know, you could just play Dragon’s Dogma 2. Or a Devil May Cry game. Or, basically anything Hideaki Itsuno directed.
