Skyblivion Can Wait, Another Elder Scrolls Remake is Hitting Skyrim’s Engine

Skyblivion Can Wait, Another Elder Scrolls Remake is Hitting Skyrim’s Engine

In case you weren’t quite done with exploring Cyrodiil just yet, Skyrim’s engine will house yet another Oblivion remake, and this one isn’t Skyblivion.

Earlier this year we got the rather good The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, an Unreal Engine 5 game that aimed to faithfully remake the 2006 game with a modern facelift.

There was also news that Skyblivion, the Oblivion remake recreated in Skyrim’s engine, was nearing completion but won’t hit its 2025 deadline.

However, looks like a third recreation of Oblivion is also on our doorstep, thanks to a new project update from Beyond Skyrim: Cyrodiil.

For the unaware, Beyond Skyrim: Cyrodiil is a massive modding project that aims to remake all of Cyrodiil in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, allowing you to venture beyond its borders and explore Tamriel’s capital province.

Unlike Skyblivion, which is essentially a remake of the original Oblivion story, Beyond Skyrim: Cyrodiil is set during Skyrim’s timeframe but tells new stories rather than rehashing the old one. In which case, there’s room for this, Skyblivion, and Bethesda’s own Oblivion Remaster to co-exist independently.

Beyond Skyrim: Cyrodiil is still in progress, but its developers recently released an update stream showcasing the work they’ve done on Anvil, the coastal city that lies to the southwest.

Three Cyrodiil Remakes Now Exist

It’s all rather impressive, to say the least. Anvil’s familiar stone streets, large dock, and beautiful surrounding Gold Coast countryside are on display in all their glory. Even though the mod isn’t ready for release, it already looks rather complete as it stands.

Beyond Skyrim’s team is aiming to make Anvil as zany as possible, which is in line with the vibe Anvil had in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. I mean, this is the town that had a haunted ghost mansion you can buy. I like the idea that after 200 years, nothing has changed there.

We get glimpses of some new quests, as well as various NPCs to populate the city.

Some of these NPCs are even descendants of the characters we met in Oblivion, tying the two games together rather effectively.

Beyond Skyrim: Anvil doesn’t have a release date yet. Considering the team had previously released Beyond Skyrim: Bruma back in 2017, it’s probably going to be a while until we see the entirety of Cyrodiil recreated in Skyrim.

However, development on the project has ramped up a lot faster lately, so we might not be waiting eight years between each new region.
