Silent Hill Meets Blair Witch In New Survival Horror Game Sequel

A brand new horror game sequel has just been announced, and it looks like a mix of Silent Hill and Blair Witch.

I’m a massive fan of The Blair Witch Project, but it’s been surprisingly difficult to make a decent video game out of it.

There have been a few licensed video games released over the years based on the IP, but I guess creating a horror game where the whole point is “you never see the monster” can be quite difficult. Still, there have been a few games over the years that have been able to take the spirit of Blair Witch and create interesting experiences out of it. Darkwood, released in 2017, is one such game.

In Darkwood, you play as a character trapped inside a large dark forest that is inhabited by strange, hostile creatures. By day, you scavenge for supplies and advance the story, by night you stay inside a safe haven and defend yourself against any outside threats.

It was quite possibly the best game to adapt that “fear of the unknown” vibe that The Blair Witch Project and Silent Hill imbue, even if you did actually see the monsters. There was just something about the audio design that really gets under your skin.

For years, it felt like a sequel was never going to surface. The original developer, Acid Wizard Studio, went silent for several years before announcing a hiatus due to “unsustainable work/life balance”.

Darkwood 2 announced

Earlier this week, however, a Darkwood sequel was announced. Acid Wizard won’t be the primary developer, with those duties instead being handed over to Pathologic series developer Ice-Pick Lodge.

The perfect fit, if you ask me.

Check the trailer out below, which features some snippets of the story as well as some gameplay.

Darkwood 2 is a standalone sequel to the original game, set in the Aral Sea after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Like the first game, you play as a character who becomes trapped inside a never-ending forest filled with dark characters and twisted creatures.

There’s no release date set for Darkwood 2 yet. The Steam store page is already up though, and we have quite a bit of information already available. So, I’d imagine we could get a release date announcement quite imminently.
