Bloober Team has teased what to expect from its unannounced Nintendo exclusive, including a ‘bold twist’ never seen in a horror game.

While we weren’t so crazy about the studio’s latest title, Cronos: The New Dawn, enthusiasm around Bloober Team’s future has grown significantly since last year’s Silent Hill 2 remake.

At the moment, we know the Polish developer is cooking up a remake of the original Silent Hill, but they’re also working on a mysterious title called Project M. This was announced in July 2024, and was described as having a ‘significantly smaller’ budget than its other titles.

It’s being built for Nintendo platforms (although it’s unclear if it’s a Switch 2 exclusive), and is apparently ‘extremely important’ for the studio’s future. While we know hardly anything about it, Bloober Team’s CEO Piotr Babieno has teased some details in a new interview.

Asked by Nintendo Insider what people should expect from Project M, Babieno said: ‘You have no idea how hard it is for me not to reveal what Project M truly is – but for now, it’s still too early to talk about it. We’re confident that we’ll be able to share the first details very soon.

‘What I can say is this: fans of Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Limbo, and Eternal Darkness will immediately feel at home. That said, Project M introduces a bold twist – one that no horror game has ever explored before. This is a vision that could only exist on Nintendo hardware.’

While most horror games are inspired by Resident Evil and Silent Hill, the Limbo and Eternal Darkness references are more intriguing. The former is a side-scrolling platformer in black and white, while Eternal Darkness is a 2002 adventure game for the GameCube which is best known for breaking the fourth wall with its sanity effects.

The other intriguing aspect is the ‘bold twist’ that could only apparently exist on Nintendo hardware. If this relates to the Switch 2 specifically, it could connect to the console’s hybrid functionality, GameChat, mouse controls, or a combination of them all.

Whatever it is, the tease of it being revealed ‘very soon’ suggests we could hear about Project M during the next Nintendo Direct, which is expected to air in January or February next year.

Nintendo aren’t known for horror games, but the publisher has been backing more adult-themed titles over recent years. Last year saw the release of creepy narrative adventure Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club, and the company is also publishing the upcoming Switch 2 exclusive The Duskbloods by FromSoftware.
