Last week, a new legal case caused quite a stir. We learned that Sandfall Interactive (Clair Obscur: Expedition 33) was seeking to have a comic banned. It was called L’Académie Clair-Obscur, and its creator, Olivier Gay, spoke of his distress and his inability to fight the studio’s lawyers.
Alerted by internet users, the Sandfall Interactive teams announced a few hours later that they wanted to find a solution. Finally, on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, the French studio confirmed that the lawsuit had been dropped. The developers mentioned in their statement that this action “does not reflect who we are” and now wish the comic book authors “every success.”
“Hello everyone, sorry for taking so long to communicate on this subject. The situation initiated by our studio’s legal representatives was new to us and complex to manage. We wanted to make sure we could discuss it with all stakeholders to be sure we understood what was going on before sharing information with you.
Sandfall was working to withdraw the requests made by our legal representative, which has now been done. Their role is to protect us, particularly against counterfeit products, but the action taken against the comic book ‘L’Académie Clair-Obscur’ published in January 2026 does not reflect our values.
We have always wanted to support artists and encourage creativity, and this is one of the most important values we want to defend at Sandfall.
We wish Olivier and Grelin every success with their comic book!”
Oliver Gay thanked the studio in a message posted on X.
