Klei Interactive rocked up to the Indie World stream with a bit of a surprise. Rotwood, their new side-scrolling brawler, is out today for PC and as a Switch 2 console exclusive.
The Don’t Starve studio has turned its attentions to side-scrolling brawling, building out the genre to feature loot gathering, the combat to have combo attacks for various weapon types, and reward different play styles as you take on challenging bosses. The game features up to four player co-op, both local and online. It’s also wrapped up in a pretty great art style.
Rotwood initially launched into Steam Early Access in April 2024, so it’s nearly two years later that it’s able to hit its full release. In that time, though, Klei originally signed a deal with Netflix to bring the game to iOS and Android, but had this agreement dissolved in 2025, as Netflix chose a new direction with its gaming initiative.
