While Resident Evil Requiem‘s launch has quite likely been a great success for Capcom, the company is now reportedly keeping its eyes on raw data to figure out the franchise’s future. According to reliable insider Dusk Golem, Capcom is looking at a variety of analytics, from reviews to player feedback, to decide what future games will look like. However, the findings are slated to be discussed in 2027, which the leaker notes will be after the rumored release of the Resident Evil – Code: Veronica remake.
In social media posts, Dusk Golem has noted that Capcom is also looking at feedback and reviews for the remake of Resident Evil 4, which it will take into account when discussing the future of the series. It is worth noting that both Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil Requiem have been critically-acclaimed, with the former sitting at an aggregated Metacritic score of 94, and the latter at 88. The reception of the Resident Evil – Code: Veronica remake is also slated to play a role in this.
“Capcom is a very data based company,” wrote Dusk Golem on social media. “They definitely have a bunch of things being measured by RE9, like past RE games. And paying attention to reviews, general feedback, sure they’ll have a survey for RE9 pretty soon to give feedback.”
“There’s a big meeting for the series that will happen in 2027, a bit after Code Veronica Remake has come out, where they’ll have meetings about all the data, feedback collected, etc, & decide how to move forward with Resident Evil based on RE:4, RE9 & Code Veronica Remake, how best to go forward.”
Resident Evil – Code: Veronica was described as being “deep in development back in January, with reports indicating that Capcom is aiming for release in the first half of 2027. This would keep it in line with the rest of the franchise since Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.
A remake of the title has been requested by many fans ever since the release of the critically-acclaimed Resident Evil 2 remake. The desire for Capcom to revisit Code: Veronica largely comes from the fact that it serves as a direct sequel to the original Resident Evil trilogy, focusing on Clair and Chris Redfield.
While things kick off with Claire still looking for her brother in the aftermath of the Raccoon City incident, things quickly heat up when she is kidnapped while investigating an Umbrella Corporation facility in Paris. She ends up in a prison complex on Rockfort Island, and news of the kidnapping reaches Chris, who finds himself on the same island to rescue his sister.
It was originally released back in 2000 on the Sega Dreamcast before eventually coming to PS2 (2001) and Nintendo GameCube (2003) in the form of Resident Evil – Code: Veronica X. It would also get HD remasters on PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2011.
In the meantime, Resident Evil Requiem was released just last week on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2. Take a look at our review for more details.
