If you love Resident Evil and Subnautica, then this new horror game might just be your cup of tea.
The legendary survival horror series from Capcom, namely Resident Evil, is the go-to franchise of its respective genre for millions of gamers across the world.
From its inception in 1996 on the original PlayStation, Resident Evil has provided us with many fond memories, whether it’s unravelling the corruption of Umbrella Corp, Leon S. Kennedy snap-suplexing villagers or nearly being mowed down by an infected truck driver with a cheeseburger in his mouth, in Resident Evil 2.
Then we have Subnautica, which is a very different game compared to the aforementioned Capcom series. Developed and published by the indie team at Unknown Worlds Entertainment, Subnautica is an underwater crafting adventure.
Granted, Subnautica isn’t a horror game in the traditional sense, but it still might be one for aquaphobia sufferers to avoid. Unless you enjoy being tormented and stressed, of course.
With that in mind, let’s get to the game that can be described as a combination of Resident Evil and Subnautica, shall we? The game in question is called Dark Mass from Path Games.
“Dark Mass is a first-person psychological horror game that immerses you in the eerie silence of the deep ocean, where time stands still and forgotten horrors await,” reads the synopsis of the game on Steam.
“Play as Alice, a deep-sea explorer who, alongside her brother Reed, discovers the remains of a shipwreck unearthed after an earthquake. But beneath the wreckage lies something far more disturbing: a sunken manor, untouched despite the passing of centuries, waiting to be discovered.”
It’s important not to get too carried away with any trailer, but at the very least, as a devoted survival horror fan, the Dark Mass trailer has left me feeling somewhat optimistic that it could be a decent game. Only time will tell.
“As a huge fan of SOMA, I find this very interesting, definitely wishlisting,” said IdleDeity in the comments section of the YouTube trailer, referring to the fantastic 2015 horror title from Frictional Games.

Some in the comment section have brought up an issue that a zombie-like creature can move so fast underwater; hopefully, that logic will be explained in the game. Saying that, a zombie is a creature that defies all logic, to be fair.
Dark Mass does not have a release date at the time of writing, but you can wishlist it on Steam to be notified of its launch. It will also be released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
