Capcom must be thrilled with Resident Evil Requiem, with both sales figures and a player data website showing how obscenely popular it is.

Before its launch, it was already safe to assume that Resident Evil Requiem would be a success. Between the series’ ongoing popularity, the return of fan favourite Leon S. Kennedy, and positive previews, nothing short of a disaster could have hampered its sales.

Sure enough, Resident Evil Requiem kicked off strongly, breaking Steam sales records and becoming one of the most played games on the platform, even outperforming popular multiplayer titles like Arc Raiders.

We’re now more than a week past its launch and Capcom has shared a new website that collates player data and demonstrates just how monumentally popular Resident Evil Requiem is.

The website only went live earlier today and the first thing it highlights is that the game, at the time of writing, has been played a whopping 18,940,172 times. Altogether, that’s over 12,350 years of collective playtime, from all the players in the world that have been online to enjoy it.

Capcom adds that it only took 10 days for players to cross the 10,000 years threshold, so that’s 1,000 years’ worth of playtime every day since the game launched.

The statistics get more granular, charting how many times players have died, which weapons are the most popular, how many items have been used, etc.

One stand out example is total enemies killed. According to Capcom, it only took two days for players to kill the equivalent of the entire population of the UK and just three to match the population of the US.

The current total stands at over 4,000 million; more than half of the total population of the entire world. That is a lot of dead (extra dead?) zombies.

There are several other more spoilery statistics too, but those are blocked off unless you log in with your Capcom ID, which will also let you view your own personal player data.

Is Resident Evil Requiem the best-selling Resident Evil game?

All in all, Capcom must be thrilled with the reception, especially as it’s already championed that Resident Evil Requiem sold over five million units in just five days.

This makes it the fastest selling entry in the series; a detail that Capcom surprisingly didn’t mention.

The previous record holder was the Resident Evil 4 remake, which also starred Leon and took four months to sell over five million copies. It went on to sell 6.48 million copies in nine months, so perhaps Capcom is waiting to see if Requiem’s sales momentum will see it cross the same threshold in a shorter timeframe.

Regardless, Requiem is comfortably among Capcom’s top 20 best-selling games of all time. They’ve yet to update its sales website, but Requiem should be in the number 19 spot, having already outsold the original Resident Evil 2 and the HD remaster of Resident Evil 0.

It’ll likely be even higher once Capcom does get round to adding it, but it still has a long way to go before it can rub shoulders with the most successful Resident Evil games.

The Resident Evil 2 remake remains the best-selling entry (and Capcom’s third best-selling video game of all time) at 16.8 million units, followed by Resident Evil 7 biohazard at 16.4 million units and Resident Evil Village at 13.5 million units.
