Resident Evil Remakes Surface, Leaker Sets Next Two Release Windows

Fresh rumours of Resident Evil remakes have resurfaced, adding further fuel to the speculative fire.

We’re just a couple of months or so away from the highly anticipated launch of Resident Evil Requiem, the next entry in Capcom’s ever-popular survival horror series. Since 2021’s Resident Evil Village, this will be the first new mainline entry that’s not a remake.

Don’t get me wrong, I love a good Resident Evil remake as much as any fan, but it’s nice to get fresh experiences once in a while. That being said, that’s also not to say that I don’t love a good Capcom remake, especially as the Japanese studio tends to knock it out of the park.

What comes after Resident Evil Requiem?

At this point, we don’t know for 100%. After all, despite the alleged leaks, Capcom usually does a good job of keeping everything under wraps. So we can only rely on speculation at this point.

Some of the most recent and loudest speculation related to the Resident Evil series is with two games that originally launched in 2000 and 2002, respectively. Namely, Resident Evil Code: Veronica and Resident Evil Zero.

Resident Evil Code: Veronica is considered to be the last true old-school entry in the series with its tank controls, claustrophobic environments, resource management and challenging difficulty.

Resident Evil Zero, Capcom

As for Resident Evil Zero, this is not viewed favourably by the community, and talk of a potential remake might catch a few by surprise. But if any games in the series need remakes, it’s these two.

Over the weekend, fans have quizzed industry insider Dusk Golem if he has any updates on the rumoured Resident Evil Code: Veronica and Resident Evil Zero remakes, and the response is quite positive.

“What I’ve heard is that the Resident Evil: Code Veronica remake should be announced next year, and released in 2027,” he replied. Then, the Zero remake will be released the following year in 2028. I’ll keep you posted if I hear differently.”

Further replies quizzed for answers regarding whether Leon S. Kennedy will survive in Resident Evil Requiem or if Claire Redfield might make an appearance. After all, the characters were the protagonists in Resident Evil 2, set in Raccoon City, the location of the upcoming game. Dusk Golem had no such updates to provide.

Resident Evil Requiem will be released on 27 February 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2.
