Resident Evil 5 Gets Gorgeous Remaster

Resident Evil 5 has just received a massive fan-made remaster patch, and it makes the game look gorgeous.

Being a game from 2009, Resident Evil 5 is obviously starting to look a little dated. Don’t get me wrong, games from that generation still look incredible. But textures and models obviously weren’t built for 4K displays, so a lot of visuals look rather low-res on modern hardware.

While rumours of a potential Resident Evil 5 remake build up, one fan has beaten Capcom to the punch by releasing a brand new texture pack for the game that is available for free.

Created by Resident Evil modder Evgeshajk, this new 4K texture pack for Resi 5 overhauls around 90% of all textures in the game to look a lot more modern.

Evgeshajk has achieved this via AI upscaling, a process I need to stress is not the same as generative AI, as it does not generate new assets. Instead, it simply upscales existing assets to make them sharper and less blurry.

This results in a pack that makes the game look a lot crisper, while also staying true to the art style of the original game.

Given that Resident Evil 5 features a lot of natural textures, like rocks, trees, and grass, it benefits a lot from this upscaling to make the terrain look a lot more realistic.

Here’s a video demonstrating the mod. Take note of the increased resolution on character models, terrain, and weapon models. It looks great, to be frank.

As you can see from the video, Resident Evil 5 has seen a great number of improvements. While it still clearly resembles a game from 2009, it also feels a bit fresher to experience in 2025.

Looming Resident Evil remakes

In terms of what remakes or remasters could be next from Capcom, rumours circulate around Resident Evil 0 or Resident Evil: Code Veronica being the next ones up for renewal.

However, considering Resident Evil 4 was the last big remake the developer made for the series, it’s definitely possible that RE5 could be the next thing it’s eyeing up.

For now though, Capcom is busy getting Resident Evil 9: Requiem out of the door. It’ll be the first mainline game in the series since Resident Evil Village in 2021. It’s due to be released on 27th February, 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
