Red Hook Studio speaks on the Darkest Dungeon board game cancellation

The Darkest Dungeon board game, developed from the famous video game franchise of the same name, will ultimately not be manufactured or delivered by publisher Mythic Games. The company was placed in receivership in 2025 due to financial problems, preventing the completion and shipment of copies to project contributors.

In response to this situation, Red Hook Studios, the creator of the Darkest Dungeon video game, has authorized an initiative allowing contributors to legally access the game’s production files (rules, 3D files, models, etc.) for non-commercial purposes. This decision is intended to offer a form of compensation or alternative to those who supported and financed the game’s production via crowdfunding.

Red Hook Studios stated the following on X:

“We put our trust in Mythic Games to deliver on their promises and uphold the Darkest Dungeon name. We won’t mince words, their collapse and inability to fulfill Wave 2 orders is an enormously disappointing development and we know it deeply affects many Darkest Dungeon fans.”
