You may not be able to officially visit Mexico throughout your exploration of Red Dead Redemption 2βs expansive open-world map but this free update will see you finally be able to cross the famous border.
Set in a fictionalised version of late 19th-century United States, Red Dead Redemption 2 spans across multiple states inspired by their real-life counterparts such as Colorado, Wyoming, Louisiana and even the arid deserts of the Southwest.
However, despite many players having tried since Red Dead Redemption 2 was first launched back in 2018, the border to Mexico is blocked by an invisible wall and in-game bounty system.
With many fans believing that this could mean that Red Dead Redemption 3 could finally take us across the border and into Mexico, for now, we have the next best thing.
Courtesy of MaxLaxSax, Mexico Bandit Hideouts is a brand-new mod for Red Dead Redemption 2 which adds multiple enemy hideouts to the hit Rockstar title.
With the modder not revealing where the hideouts are located in the hopes that you will go out and stumble across them yourself, we do not know the details but according to the images included on the mod page, we can expect multiple enemies, fortresses, and camps to invade.
Not only that but MaxLaxSax aims to add even more content to this free download when the mod update for Nuevo Paraiso arrives.

Another mod to go alongside
Created by Mexico Team on Nexus Mods, Nuevo Paraiso is a fellow free download for Red Dead Redemption 2 which was uploaded back in 2023.
It converts the Nuevo Paraiso map from Red Dead Redemption and brings it to Red Dead Redemption 2.
The mod team has managed to update and redo the cities that John Marston gets to explore and despite not having been updated since 2023, a new update is expected to drop soon.
So, technically, you can experience Mexico in Red Dead Redemption 2 thanks to these two mods and with players having begged Rockstar to add this new location, this is definitely the next best thing.
Better yet? It is completely free to explore if you own Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC.
Additionally, if you are on the lookout for some more free downloads for RDR2, you can find everything from ultimate wagon overhauls, night patrols and even bank robbing.
All of these downloads are available for free courtesy of Nexus Mods and are the perfect way to spend the time until Red Dead Redemption 3 is (hopefully) announced one day soon.
