As if another delay to Grand Theft Auto 6 wasnโt enough, Rockstar Games courted controversy yet again by announcing Red Dead Redemption for current-gen consoles and Switch 2. Though available as a free upgrade if you already own the game, there was some backlash from fans of the sequel, who have been waiting years for a current-gen update.
Recent rumors have also been circulating about the same, which didnโt help matters. However, interestingly, it seems that an โenhancedโ version of Red Dead Redemption 2 is still in development, according to NateTheHate. Regarding the announcement of RDR1, the insider responded to a Twitter user with, โThis doesnโt negate RDR2 happening.โ
What about when he specifically said it would arrive later this year? โI said I was told it would come a few months after Switch 2 launch โ which is info from the start of 2025.โ He then pointed out that since then, Grand Theft Auto 6 has been delayed, and Rockstar โdoes whatever they want. Release timelines can change.โ
Itโs hard to argue with that. Who could have predicted that GTA6 would see not one but two big delays before 2025 was even up? Whether Red Dead Redemption 2 is coming to Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and Switch 2 or not, itโs ultimately up to Rockstar to confirm the same.
In the meantime, Red Dead Redemption will be available on December 2nd for the same platforms. It will also be available on iOS and Android for Netflix subscribers.
