The spiritual successor to Patapon, Ratatan is set to rekindle the rhythm-action strategy on 16th July with its full release for PC, and launch across Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, PS4 and Xbox Series X|S.
While it channels Patapon with its catchy music and the need to rhythmically tap buttons in time to issue musical orders and commands to your army, Ratatan folds in the modern obsession: rougelites. Sure, Patapon was already a bit roguelite-y, but Ratatan makes it more overt as you march against evil armies to defeat them and gather the weapons and materials you need to go further.
Ratatan launched into Steam Early Access back in September of last year, with a significant update in December, and there’s still more content coming soon, but the attentions will be turning to the full multi-platform launch now. Looking back on that initial release, Dom said, “Ratatan is exactly what I wanted it to be. In Early Access this is a fresh, modern take on Patapon’s iconic action with an invigorating visual design and awesome soundtrack. All I want now from the journey to 1.0 is even more of this.”
