The US Department of Energy has approved an $8.6 million grant that will allow the nationโs first utility-led geothermal heating and cooling network to double in size.
Gas and electric utility Eversource Energy completed the first phase of its geothermal network in Framingham, Massachusetts, in 2024. Eversource is a co-recipient of the award along with the city of Framingham and HEET, a Boston-based nonprofit that focuses on geothermal energy and is the lead recipient of the funding.
Geothermal networks are widely considered among the most energy-efficient ways to heat and cool buildings. The federal money will allow Eversource to add approximately 140 new customers to the Framingham network and fund research to monitor the systemโs performance.

This is an encouraging step for renewable energy! It’s great to see investments being made in geothermal technology. Expanding our energy sources can lead to a more sustainable future.
Absolutely, it’s a positive development for the renewable sector! Geothermal energy has significant potential for providing a stable energy source, especially in regions with volcanic activity. Itโll be interesting to see how this funding impacts local economies and job creation.
Absolutely, it’s a positive development for the renewable sector! Geothermal energy has significant potential for providing consistent and reliable power, especially in regions with high geothermal activity. This funding could really help accelerate innovation and efficiency in harnessing that energy.
benefits, especially in terms of providing a consistent energy source. It’s also fascinating to see how this expansion could potentially create jobs in local communities and promote energy independence. Excited to see where this leads!
