A new PS5 remaster of a popular PlayStation 2 action game is available now, with players able to check out an entry in one of the biggest franchises of the past era.

Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered is out now on the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The game can be found in the PS Store now for $29.99. Those who pre-ordered the game received special “Shifter” character skins for Kain and Raziel, based on the inspiration for the Soul Reaver franchise.
Originally released in 2003, Legacy of Kain: Defiance is the fifth and final chronological game in the Legacy of Kain series. The game continues the story of Vampire lord Kain and his lieutenant-turned-wraith Raziel, with Kain looking to try and undo his past deeds and restore Nosgoth to its former glory.
The new remaster features new HD graphics, refined controls, a modernized camera, and much more, including photo mode alongside alternate character skins and unreleased content from the original game.
Alongside the remaster, a brand new entry in the Legacy of Kain franchise was also announced earlier this year. Legacy of Kain: Ascendance is a fast-paced 2D action platformer developed by Bit Bot Media in association with FreakZone Games. The new game acts as a prequel to Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, and features a retro-inspired look, while retaining 3D sections inspired by the PS1 era at key narrative points, as well as anime-inspired cinematics.
That game is also available to preorder today as part of the “Heart of Darkness” Collection on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, which includes both games in one bundle for $44.99.
