It’s not every day that PS4 and PS5 players are surprised with a free game. The latest free offering on the PlayStation Store is a classic game that originally released back in 2008. Surely, some gamers may have assumed it shut down, but this RPG seems to be alive and kicking, as it has now been ported to the PS4.

Wizard101 gets free port for PS4 and PS5 players

Developed by KingsIsle Entertainment and published by Gamigo, the MMORPG Wizard101 is currently available for PS4 and PS5 players to download on the PS Store. While the game is free-to-play, anyone who wants to play through the game’s first arc will need to fork over $19.99. Additionally, players can purchase their premium currency for as low as $4.99 to as much as $99.99.

PS Plus players do get a bit of an incentive for playing Wizard101 on PS4 or PS5. There is a Spiral Guardian’s Pack available for free, which includes some cosmetics for anyone who downloads the DLC. Here is everything included in the PS Plus exclusive pack:

  • Guardian’s Outfit
  • Jade Oni Pet
  • Fiesty Fire Kitten Pet
  • 5 Professor’s Hoard Packs

“Unleash your inner magic and prepare to unravel the mysteries surrounding a death professor gone rogue. Darkness threatens to engulf the Spiral as you master powerful spells, explore over 22 whimsical worlds, and team-up with friends in this nostalgic wizard turn-based deckbuilding MMORPG.”

Wizard101 has been around for 17 years. There aren’t many critic reviews out for the long-running MMORPG, but the ones that are shown on Metacritic are pretty positive and average around an 80. Steam reviews are “Very Positive” also. Out of the nearly 7,900 user reviews submitted on the PC digital storefront, 83% of those were positive. It does seem more geared towards children, but it may be worth checking out.
