What was expected to be the annual PS5, PS4 blockbuster game for 2025 has turned out to be a dud for publisher Activision, it seems. Not long after the company admitted that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 fell well short of expectations, retailers are heavily discounting the game, which is unprecedented for a Call of Duty title a month after launch.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 dethroned as 2025’s biggest PS5, PS4 game
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is currently just $39.99 at Best Buy, Walmart, and Amazon. At one point over the last week, the game was also available for as low as $34.99. This represents savings of 43% to 50% — again, unprecedented for a Call of Duty game after just one month.
Battlefield 6 and surprise hit Arc Raiders are both credited with putting a dent in Black Ops 7’s sales. Call of Duty games have faced little to no competition in recent years.
Prior to Black Ops 7’s launch, Activision claimed that it wasn’t worried about rival Battlefield 6’s positive reception. Shortly after launch, the company acknowledged player complaints and announced a series of changes, including but not limited to putting an end to back-to-back releases of Modern Warfare and Black Ops games.
