In news we didn’t expect to see today, a set of beloved PS1 games is headed to “current consoles,” including the PS5. Battle Arena Toshinden 1, 2, and 3 are 3D fighting games from the 1990s that received positive reviews from both players and critics. Now, Japanese company Edia Co., Ltd has struck a deal with Takara Tomy to port them to modern platforms.
Trio of Battle Arena Toshinden PS1 games headed to PS5 between fiscal years 2026 and 2027
As spotted by Gematsu, a Japanese press release states that an agreement between Edia and Takara Tomy was signed this month, with the Battle Arena Toshinden ports expected to launch “between fiscal 2026 and 2027.”
Interestingly, although the press release only mentions “current consoles,” a footnote appears at the bottom of the page noting that PS5 and PS4 are trademarks of Sony Interactive Entertainment.
“As Edia accelerates its efforts to commercialize a wide range of retro game IP, it will port Toshinden, Toshinden 2, and Toshinden 3, the first 3D fighting games for PlayStation that were huge hits worldwide, to current consoles,” a statement reads. “This commemorative, hugely popular series, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary since its release in 1995, will be delivered to retro game fans around the world as high-quality retro game titles.”
All three games, which were released in 1995, 1996, and 1997, were originally developed by Tamsoft.
