PS5 Open-World RPG Drops New Region, Perfect For Beginners

This open-world RPG available on PC, PlayStation and Xbox has been recommended by gamers if you’re new to the genre.

Sometimes, it can feel like the open-world genre is somewhat oversaturated, especially when it feels like developers and publishers are following a trend.

Thankfully, there are some exceptions to that rule with the likes of Red Dead Redemption 2, Skyrim, GTA V, and Elden Ring, to name a few, that offer worlds we love to revisit, again and again.

However, some open worlds can be so big and filled with so much content, it can feel a bit too much. For example, with Bungie’s Destiny 2, if you hop into its hub, the Tower, for the first time or after a long break, it can feel a bit overwhelming with all the quest markers.

So, if you’re new to the open-world genre or looking for something to get back into it, then this RPG has come highly recommended by gamers.

This game was originally released in 2015 on PC, but in June this year, it received a free new-gen update on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The RPG in question is called Black Desert Online, developed and published by Pearl Abyss.

“Open-World MMORPG Black Desert Online has everything from breathtaking combat and siege wars, to exploration and a variety of life-skill content such as trade, fishing, horse training, alchemy, cooking, and gathering,” reads the description of the game. “Embark on the adventure you’ve truly been longing for.”

Recently, Black Desert Online received a new expansion that opens up a new region called ‘Edania’, on PC in August, then PlayStation and Xbox on 13 November.

“Hot take: ‘Edania’ is for new/mid-game players,” declared NoMeat7147. “Before ‘Edania’, new/mid-game players were just grinding so that they could grind a little faster, which makes no sense.

“Now there is finally something tangible to work towards, unlocking new zones, getting strong enough to fight endgame bosses. Is it perfect as of now? No. But it is a huge step in the right direction. So rejoice, all new/midgame players! You have a reason to get stronger.”

“I agree with you. In the last few years, people have been bemoaning how we have no endgame. Here we go, now we do? What do people do now? Now they are upset that we have the endgame,” replied KasumiTen.

“It sure is nice to have a goal to work towards other than upgrading your spot so you can earn more money. Ultimately, it does come down to the same thing, but now it’s a whole region with multiple types of events,” said NeilForeal.

“Agreed,” replied Cryback, getting straight to the point.

Black Desert Online is out now on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and mobile devices.
