PS5 Might Get Another Price Hike in 2026, Report Suggests

PS5 price increase

A new report by a reliable insider suggests that further PS5 and Xbox price hikes are expected in 2026 if the ongoing RAM shortages and prices aren’t stabilized anytime soon. As explained yesterday, the push towards AI has caused RAM availability issues, which have in turn pushed prices up.

PS5 and Xbox price hikes might not be the only consequence of RAM shortage

According to reliable insider Tom Henderson, RAM price and availability have caused concern among console manufacturers, who are already considering delaying the release of next-gen consoles, including the PS6.

Companies like Sony will struggle to mass-produce consoles if the situation persists, which β€œcould also mean that yet more price increases for current generation consoles will hit us in 2026,” Henderson wrote on his publication Insider Gaming.

PS5 price hikes have already hurt Sony in some markets, especially Japan. The company recently attempted to soften the blows by introducing a cheaper, Japan-only PS5 digital edition to boost sales. Whether this region-locked console strategy will work or not remains to be seen.

Folks who have yet to purchase a PS5 or PS5 Pro and are considering buying one should probably get one now or bite at the next sale. However, with Black Friday and Christmas behind us, we’re not expecting major sales anytime soon.
