PS5 Leak Seemingly Reveals Highly Requested New Feature

PlayStation hasn’t quite adopted Xbox’s ‘play anywhere’ approach, but it certainly remains interested in porting its exclusive titles to PC.

There remains a time delay with this, and I’m sure you’re aware of that.

PlayStation seemingly still values the notion of an exclusive and the power they hold in luring gamers towards particular pieces of hardware.

The Last of Us Part II is the perfect example; it may have originally launched in 2020, but it only landed on PC earlier this year.

Still, these delayed PC ports are likely the most we’re going to get out of PlayStation when it comes to cross-platform play, and I don’t really think anyone has an issue with that.

There may, however, be a small quality-of-life update on the way that’s undoubtedly pro-consumer for anyone who does game across PS5 and PC.

As reported by PushSquare, a “cross-buy” option has seemingly been datamined by Twitter/X user yAmethxst.

It’s not much to go on, but I think it seems pretty clear that the idea is that consumers would be able to freely play their purchased titles across PS5 and PC.

That would be great to see as if you currently own, for example, The Last of Us Part II on PS5, you do need to purchase it again if you want to enjoy it on PC.

Of course, as an unconfirmed leak, I must urge you to take this with a pinch of salt.

While there’s logic here, this is all, at the end of the day, speculative.

Some have predicted this pertains to an upcoming PlayStation handheld but there’s little evidence to back up that theory.

What are PS5 users saying?

If the “cross-buy” button is real and does allow purchases to be played across both PS5 and PC, it’s an option gamers are quite excited about.

“Been down this road before with PS3, PSP, and PS Vita. It was an amazing time in PlayStation history,” remarked Twitter/X user KevynBGrams.

“This is bloody awesome (if true),” added DanielTX51.

I will reiterate, my inkling here is that the feature would only apply to Sony games already freely available on both platforms.

I wouldn’t anticipate being able to play any old Sony title wherever you’d like.

As I said, keep that pinch of salt handy, but this is certainly an interesting little tidbit to keep an eye on.
