PS5 players have been surprised with a remake of a 2007 Taiwanese single-player RPG, and it looks fantastic thus far. Sword and Fairy 4 Remake will be the first time the nearly two-decade-old PC game The Legend of Sword and Fairy 4 will make its way to the West.
Upcoming PS5 RPG Sword and Fairy 4 Remake likened to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Sword and Fairy 4 Remake is a departure from the original game in terms of its direction. The upcoming turn-based RPG is evidently influenced by modern RPGs, including the hugely successful Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
It’s no surprise, then, that the discourse surrounding Sword and Fairy 4 Remake has turned negative, as some players accuse developer Up Software and publisher Cube Game of “copy pasting” Clair Obscur. While the similarities are visible, as many have already pointed out, Clair Obscur certainly didn’t invest any of the mechanics on display in the trailer below:
“This single-player turn-based RPG is reborn in Unreal Engine 5 with the latest technology,” wrote publisher Cube Games. “Set off on a journey to find the immortals with Tianhe Yun’s team. In the meantime, a hidden truth that has been sealed for a long time is revealing itself.”
Sword and Fairy 4 Remake is headed to consoles and PC. Complete list of platforms has yet to be announced, but we don’t expect a PS4 version.
