During Sonyโs State of Play this week, they surprised fans by revealing that one of the most beloved games of the PlayStation 3 would finally be arriving on a newer platform.
What PS3 game is finally coming to PS5?
During the State of Play, Konami unveiled that they were releasing a second volume of the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection. This volume includes three games, but by far the biggest is the inclusion of 2008โs Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.
Previously, the game had only ever released on the PS3, with many believing the game was too complicated to release outside of the consoleโs architecture. However, it seems like Konami has found a way, as the fan-favorite entry by Hideo Kojima will finally be available to play again.
Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 will release on August 27, 2026, and will be available on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Nintendo Switch 2, and Nintendo Switch. The game is available to preorder now, with both physical and digital versions available.
Alongside Guns of the Patriots, Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 will also include Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, the 2010 game developed for the PlayStation Portable, as well as Metal Gear Solid: Ghost Babel, a game released in 2000 for the Game Boy Color. Other inclusions in the Master Collection feature a screenplay book, a database of things to look through, digital soundtracks, and more.
The second volume of the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection comes following 2023โs Volume 1 release. That featured the first five main entries in the Metal Gear Solid franchise, as well as some additional goodies like VR missions for the game, the NES version of Metal Gear, and more.
