PS Plus Free Game Revoked Due to Cross-Buy Loophole

PS4 game shutting down

In September, the PS4 PS Plus game Stardew Valley was mysteriously free to own after players claimed it with their PlayStation Plus subscription. However, it seems Sony is revoking those “purchases” as it seems this option was due to a glitch with the PlayStation Store.

PS Plus game Stardew Valley was free to own due to a PS Store glitch

As pointed out by X (formerly Twitter) user Wario64, Sony is “refunding” PS4 and PS5 players who had claimed their free-to-own version of Stardew Valley. The emails sent to purchasers don’t state a reason why the refunds were issued, and are simply the standard refund request email. As no money was used to claim the game, anyone who took advantage of this glitch won’t lose or gain money. They will just no longer be able to download the game without a PS Plus subscription.

It should be noted that this should only affect players who claimed Stardew Valley last September by using the cross-buy loophole. Players who have purchased the game should be able to download and play the game without a PS Plus subscription.

It should also be noted that several users in the replies for the tweet claim that they can still play Stardew Valley on the PS Vita after claiming the game using the loophole. So, for now, owners of the retired PlayStation handheld can still enjoy the lauded cozy game.

Stardew Valley is now available on the PS Store for $11.99. In our review, we gave the game a 9 out of 10.

“Stardew Valley is a game so completely full of content, that it is hard to fathom that it was created by a single person,” reads our review.” With a ton of secrets to discover, and fishing, farming, mining, smelting, and even dating as activity options, this feels like a perfect mix of life simulation games of the past, with a decidedly modern take.”
