Professor Layton and the New World of Steam Launching in 2026, Also Coming to PS5 and PC

After lying dormant for roughly a year, Level-5 finally revealed new details and gameplay for Professor Layton and the New World of Steam. It’s out this year for Nintendo Switch 1 and 2, with PlayStation 5 and PC also joining the platform line-up.

As showcased during the Level-5 Vision 2026 Craftsmanship stream, the Professor and his assistant Luke reunite after a year apart in Steam Bison, America. While the town is in the midst of an industrial revolution, heavily pushing steam tech, there are more than enough mysteries. A phantom gunman stalks the streets, and Elida, an heiress, has been kidnapped.

Whatever may be going on, players can expect the biggest collection of puzzles in the series to date. These range from plotting escape routes to side-scrolling platforming, but fans can look forward to numerous other features, including full 3D cutscenes, mouse support on Switch 2, a Coin Radar, and β€œupdated movement.”

And while it’s touting a fair amount of challenge with its puzzles, you can enable hints and even take notes to keep track of details via the Memo. Adding to the already slick presentation is the theme song, which is composed by the legendary Joe Hisaishi, best known for Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Ni no Kuni 2, and more.

Stay tuned for more details and a concrete release date in the coming months, especially as development nears completion.
