A long-running shooter series is reportedly returning to PS5 with a new entry almost a decade after its last mainline game. Wolfenstein‘s most recent outing was a 2019 spinoff, with its last full-fledged game — Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus — having released in 2017. A pair of new reports claim that Wolfenstein 3 is in the works.
Wolfenstein 3 will be the first mainline PS5 entry in the long-running shooter series
The modern releases of Wolfenstein are the works of MachineGames, and the studio has been tapped again for Wolfenstein 3, according to both Windows Central and Kotaku.
Windows Central claims that Wolfenstein 3 will coincide with the upcoming Amazon show based on the series, with Kotaku corroborating the report via its own sources.
MachineGames is also reportedly working on “a Rainbow Six Siege-like” multiplayer game. Neither Kotaku nor Windows Central could share release windows for the rumored projects.
2019 spinoff Wolfenstein: Youngblood got a lackluster reception, but both Wolfenstein: The New Order and Wolfenstein 2 earned positive reviews. While the former was nominated for numerous awards, the sequel took home several trophies.
We have no further information about Wolfenstein 3 beyond its existence and potential platforms. We’ll update our readers when we hear more about it.
