The popular 2K Games and Hangar 13 2025 action-adventure game, Mafia: The Old Country, is receiving a big update that introduces a new game mode that might be familiar to fans of the series. The best part is players won’t have to wait long to play the new free content.
What is the new Mafia: The Old Country update?
From the PlayStation Blog, the main attraction of the new Mafia: The Old Country update is the addition of the Free Ride mode. Fans may recognize this as a callback to the original Mafia’s Free Ride Extreme mode and the Mafia: Definitive Edition’s Free Ride mode. Separate from the main story, this allows players to continue to explore the Valle Dorata and complete new repeatable Challenges, including combat, stealth, and different race types. Completing these challenges earn players currency to spend on new outfits, charms, weapons, and vehicles in this mode and the main campaign.
Beyond the Free Ride mode, the Mafia: The Old Country update will also add the “much-requested” photo mode. Also, first-person driving, “Classic” difficulty, and the Cinema Siciliano Mode will also be added in the update. Check out the trailer below to see all of this in action.

When Mafia: The Old Country was released earlier this year, it received decent reviews. According to the review aggregate site Metacritic, it received an average score of 73 across 81 critic reviews. PS5 players seem to share the same sentiment as the game’s global player ratings on the PlayStation Store is currently 4.08 stars.
Mafia: The Old Country is available for PS5 on the PS Store for $49.99. There is also a Deluxe Edition for $59.99 that includes the base game, Padrino Pack, Gatto Nero Pack, Soundtrack, and Digital Artbook.
